The narrow spread changes how you should choose. At big airports the budget car park can cost a third of the terminal-side one. Here, Short Stay 1 costs under £30 more than Jet Park 1 for eight days. For many travellers the shorter walk earns that difference.
The cheapest ways to park at East Midlands
Jet Park 1 is the cheapest product we bring you, at £5.42 a day. Jet Park 2, Long Stay 1 and Midlands Parking's non-flex meet and greet all sit within about a pound a day of it.
| Car park | Per day | Getting to the terminal | Keys |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jet Park 1 | £5.42 | Free shuttle | You keep them |
| Jet Park 2 | £5.95 | Free shuttle | You keep them |
| Long Stay 1 | £6.12 | Free bus, 3–5 min | You keep them |
| Midlands Parking (non-flex) | £6.21 | Short walk after handover | Handed to a driver |

Two points decide which cheap option suits you. First, the season: JetParks and Long Stay close over winter. Second, your bags: Midlands Parking costs about the same as Long Stay 1 but removes the bus ride altogether.
Every product ranked by price, with the trade-offs spelled out, is on our cheap East Midlands Airport car parking page.
The four official car park zones
The airport groups its car parks into four zones: JetParks, Long Stay, Mid Stay and Short Stay. The closer the zone, the higher the price. You keep your keys in all four.
The budget zone. A free shuttle takes about 12–15 minutes. Pre-book only.
A free bus about every 15 minutes, with a 3–5 minute ride.
A 5–7 minute walk to the terminal. No bus needed.
The closest self-park spaces, a 1–5 minute walk.
Each zone contains two or three numbered car parks with slightly different prices. We cover each zone on one page, with every price listed, so you can compare the numbers side by side.
JetParks, the budget zone
JetParks 1 and 2 are the cheapest official car parks at East Midlands, with a free shuttle to the terminal of about 12 to 15 minutes. Both are sold on a pre-book basis only.
Entry uses number plate recognition, so there is no ticket to keep safe. You park, lock up, keep your keys and walk to the shuttle stop. The transfer is the longest of the four zones, so allow extra time on the way out.
JetParks is the natural choice for a week or more away when price matters most. Our JetParks page compares the two car parks and their prices.
Long Stay, the shortest bus ride
Long Stay 1 and 2 sit closer than JetParks, with a free bus about every 15 minutes and a ride of just 3 to 5 minutes. Long Stay 2 is also walkable, in 15 to 20 minutes.
Long Stay costs a pound or two a day more than JetParks. In return the transfer is much shorter. Long Stay 2 also works as the airport's free waiting car park, with the first 60 minutes free. See the Long Stay car park page for the details.
Mid Stay, the walk-in middle ground
Mid Stay 1, 2 and 3 are a 5 to 7-minute walk from the terminal, with no bus to wait for. Mid Stay stays open when JetParks and Long Stay close for winter.
Mid Stay suits early flights, when you would rather not wait for the first bus, and anyone who dislikes transfers. It costs roughly £1.30 to £2.40 a day more than JetParks on our sample dates.
The three Mid Stay car parks differ in price by under a pound over eight days. Our Mid Stay page lists all three.
Short Stay, the closest self-park spaces
Short Stay 1, 2 and 3 are a 1 to 5-minute walk from the terminal, the closest you can park yourself at East Midlands. Short Stay 1 is also the pick-up car park and the meet and greet handover point.
Short Stay costs about £3 to £4 a day more than Jet Park 1 over eight days. For a family with luggage, a business trip or a late return, that often pays for itself. Short Stay 3 costs least of the three on our sample dates.
Compare the three on our East Midlands short stay parking page, or see the Short Stay car park page.
Meet and greet at East Midlands
Two services hand your car to a driver near the terminal: the official VIP Meet & Greet and Midlands Parking. Both cost less than Short Stay on our sample dates, which is unusual.
Official VIP Meet & Greet
The airport's own service. Hand your keys in at the Meet and Greet reception, then walk 1–2 minutes to the terminal. Minimum stay three days.
Midlands Parking
Independent. A driver meets you in row C of Short Stay 1. Your car is stored in a compound 3.9 miles away. Non-flex and flex prices.
Both services involve an airport charge or a minimum stay worth knowing about. Midlands Parking customers pay a £6 airport charge at drop-off and again at collection. The official service has a three-day minimum stay and a 2-metre height limit.
Our East Midlands meet and greet page sets the two side by side.
Which car parks let you keep your keys
You keep your keys at every official self-park zone: JetParks, Long Stay, Mid Stay and Short Stay. You hand them over only with meet and greet.
| Car park | Keys | How you reach the terminal |
|---|---|---|
| JetParks 1 & 2 | You keep them | Free shuttle |
| Long Stay 1 & 2 | You keep them | Free bus or walk |
| Mid Stay 1, 2 & 3 | You keep them | 5–7 minute walk |
| Short Stay 1, 2 & 3 | You keep them | 1–5 minute walk |
| VIP Meet & Greet | Handed in at reception | 1–2 minute walk |
| Midlands Parking | Handed to a driver | Short walk |
Winter closures
The airport closes Long Stay and JetParks over the winter season. During that time, Mid Stay is the cheapest official car park you can book.
The airport closes these two zones for the winter season. No results for your dates usually means that. Mid Stay is then the cheapest official car park you can book.
Winter is when meet and greet looks strongest. With the budget zones shut, Midlands Parking's non-flex price undercuts every open official car park on our sample dates. Check the season for your own dates by searching above.
Dropping off and picking up
Rapid Drop-Off costs £5 for up to 15 minutes, then £1 a minute, with a 30-minute maximum. For pick-ups, Short Stay 1 charges £6 for up to 30 minutes, and Long Stay 2 is free for the first hour.
| Where | Charge | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Rapid Drop-Off | £5 up to 15 min, then £1 a minute | Drop-off only. Pay online or by phone. |
| Short Stay 1 | £6 up to 30 min | Pick-ups. Blue Badge holders get 30 min free. |
| Long Stay 2 | First 60 min free | Walk 15–20 min or take the free bus. |
The drop-off zone has no barriers, so payment is due by midnight the next day. Miss it and a £100 charge follows, cut to £60 when paid within 14 days. The approach roads are no-stopping red routes, so do not pull over to wait.
The full rules are in our East Midlands drop-off and pick-up guide.
Blue Badge and accessible parking
Blue Badge holders get 30 minutes free at Short Stay 1 for pick-ups. The airport also says its official meet and greet suits Blue Badge holders, with a 1 to 2-minute walk after handover.
For a longer stay, Short Stay keeps the walk to between one and five minutes. Contact the airport in advance for help moving through the terminal, and have your badge on display whenever you park.
Vehicle size limits
The official meet and greet has a 2-metre height limit and does not take motorcycles. Midlands Parking accepts vehicles that fit a standard bay and are under 2 metres wide.
Maximum height 2 metres. Motorcycles are not accepted.
Standard bay size, under 2 metres wide, no long-wheelbase vehicles.
Check any limits in your booking confirmation before you travel.
Electric vehicle charging
We have not found bookable EV charging at the East Midlands car parks, so we do not claim any. Plan to arrive with enough charge for the drive home.
Donington Park motorway services on the M1, close to the airport, has public chargers for a top-up on the way in. Our East Midlands EV charging page covers planning a trip with an electric car.
Getting to East Midlands Airport by car
East Midlands Airport is at Castle Donington, Derby DE74 2SA, beside the M1. Leave at junction 24 from the north or 23A from the south, then follow the A453 and the airport signs.
The airport is signed from both junctions.
The terminal postcode for your sat-nav.
East Midlands Parkway is the nearest main-line station.
Each car park has its own entrance off the airport road, so follow the zone signs rather than the terminal signs as you arrive. Your booking confirmation names the exact car park.
Choosing the right car park for your trip
Match the car park to your trip length, your luggage and the season. At East Midlands, a few pounds buys a noticeably shorter journey to the terminal.
| Your trip | Our suggestion | Why |
|---|---|---|
| A week or more, spring to autumn | JetParks | Lowest price, free shuttle |
| A week or more, winter | Mid Stay | Cheapest official car park open all year |
| Family with lots of luggage | Midlands Parking | No bus, low price |
| Blue Badge holder | VIP Meet & Greet | 1–2 minute walk after handover |
| Day trip or weekend | Short Stay | 1–5 minute walk |
| Early flight, no bus wait | Mid Stay | 5–7 minute walk |
Book early whichever you choose. Prices rise as your travel date gets closer.
