Two things stand out. The off-airport sites in Rochford are remarkably cheap, among the lowest prices at any airport we cover. And the airport's own names do not line up with its prices: pre-booked, Budget costs more than Standard and Premium costs less than Superior. The sections below explain why.
The new car park names
London Southend Airport has renamed three of its four car parks. The car parks are the same; only the names changed.
| New name | Old name | Walk to check-in, per the airport |
|---|---|---|
| Official Standard Parking | Long Stay | 3–5 minutes |
| Official Budget Parking | Mid Stay | About 2 minutes |
| Official Superior Parking | Short Stay | A few steps |
| Official Premium Parking | Premium (unchanged) | About a minute |
Booking sites, sat-nav favourites and older guides still use the old names, and our price sheet did too. Our guides use the airport's new names with the old ones alongside, so you can match whatever your confirmation says to the signs on the day.
Official car parks at Southend
Every official car park at Southend is a walk of five minutes or less. None needs a shuttle, and you keep your keys in all of them.
The cheapest official option, just round the corner.
About two minutes, and the only one for large vehicles.
Dedicated spaces opposite the terminal.
Opposite the terminal, with the closest Blue Badge bays.
Ten-minute drop-off and pick-up, beside Superior.
Right beside the terminal.
The airport describes its car parks as secure, well lit and regularly patrolled. We have found no Park Mark statement from the airport, so none is claimed here. Cameras read your plate on the way in and out, and the whole airport is cashless.
Long stay parking
For a trip of several days, Standard is the airport's cheapest car park, three to five minutes from check-in. Diamond and Purple cost less but take your keys.
Standard is the car park the airport used to call Long Stay. You park in a marked bay, keep your keys and walk round the corner. The airport allows four hours either side of your booked times, so a late flight home rarely costs anything. Beyond that, overstays are charged at the 24-hour turn-up rate.
Standard takes vehicles up to 2.0 metres tall and 5.0 metres long. For larger ones, Budget is the only official option. Read the Standard parking page for more.
Short stay parking
For a few hours or a night away, Southend's car parks price very differently when you turn up. Budget has the gentlest steps; Superior charges most for a quick stop.
| Car park | Turn-up tariff | Walk |
|---|---|---|
| Official Budget Parking | From £12 for 30 minutes, then in steps to a day | About 2 minutes |
| Official Superior Parking | £25 for up to 10 minutes, then a daily rate | A few steps |
| Official Premium Parking | A single daily rate; evening offer after 5pm | About a minute |
| Official Standard Parking | A single daily rate | 3–5 minutes |
From the airport's parking page, checked 25 September 2026.
For meeting a flight, the airport points drivers to Superior when they need a bit longer than the Express lane gives, and to Budget for longer waits. For a trip of a night or more, book ahead: the airport says pre-booking saves up to 60%.
Meet and greet and park and ride
Southend Airport runs no meet and greet of its own. Park and ride comes from two off-airport sites in Rochford.
With every official car park a few minutes from the terminal, meet and greet adds less at Southend than at bigger airports. Premium gets you within a minute of check-in and lets you keep your keys, for far less than a valet service usually costs.
Park and ride is where Southend gets cheap. Diamond and Purple Parking both run from Purdeys Industrial Estate in Rochford, a short bus ride away. You leave your keys at reception, staff park the car, and the bus takes around four or five minutes. Diamond also sells an EV option. See the Diamond Park & Ride page.
Off-airport parking
Diamond Park & Ride and Purple Parking are the two off-airport sites we sell, both on the same industrial estate in Rochford.
| Site | Where | Transfer | Keys |
|---|---|---|---|
| Diamond Park & Ride | Millhead Way, Rochford | Bus every 10–15 min, about 5 min | Left at reception |
| Purple Parking Park & Ride | Millhead Way, Rochford | Bus about 4 min | Left at reception |
| Diamond Park & Ride with EV Charging | Same site as Diamond | As Diamond, plus charging | Left at reception |
Resellers describe both sites as fenced and staffed around the clock with CCTV, and some describe Park Mark awards; we report those as the operators' claims. Both accept standard cars without trailers and with fewer than eight seats. Resellers also say Diamond's shuttle is not wheelchair accessible, which matters for some travellers.
Dropping off and picking up
The Express lane, opposite the terminal, costs £8 for up to 10 minutes. There is no barrier: you pay online by midnight the following day.
- Drive in. Follow the Express signs next to Superior.
- Stop briefly. Ten minutes at most.
- Drive out. No barrier; the camera logs your plate.
- Pay online. By midnight the day after your visit.
Stay longer than ten minutes, or forget to pay by the deadline. The airport issues a PCN in either case.
The approach roads are marked with double red lines, meaning no stopping. For a longer goodbye, or to meet someone off a flight, park in Superior or Budget on the turn-up tariff. Blue Badge holders will find the bays closest to the terminal in Superior. Passengers who need extended help to board should contact the airport's assisted travel service rather than rely on the Express lane.
What changed for free drop-off in 2026
The free workarounds people still recommend no longer work. Three changes in spring 2026 closed them.
The barrierless Express lane opened beside the Short Stay car park, now Superior.
The neighbouring retail park banned drop-offs and pick-ups by non-customers, with a three-hour daytime limit and 30 minutes overnight, enforced by Excel Parking.
Southend City Council is introducing controlled parking permit zones on nearby roads.
Older guides mention a short free period in one of the car parks. The airport's current pages do not advertise any free drop-off, so plan on the Express charge or a car park. The genuinely free option is the train, which stops right by the terminal.
The train instead of the car
Southend Airport station is about 100 paces from the terminal, with direct Greater Anglia trains to London.
Those figures come from the airport. For travellers from east London, or anyone along the line through Essex, the train can beat driving, especially for a short trip where parking would be a large part of the cost. A lift to the nearest station avoids the Express charge too. We would rather say so than pretend driving is the only way.
Electric vehicle charging
The airport does not list chargers in its own car parks. Diamond Park & Ride sells an EV option with charging included.
Diamond's EV product uses 7.4 kW untethered chargers that work with Type 1 and Type 2 connectors, per its listings. The car is charged before you return, and you need to bring your own cable. On our sample dates it costs more than standard Diamond parking but less than any of the airport's own car parks, so for an electric car it is good value.
For a short drive from Essex or east London, a full battery at home is usually enough for the return trip, and any official car park will do.
The cheapest way to park at Southend
Diamond Park & Ride is the cheapest parking we sell at Southend, followed closely by Purple Parking. Standard is the cheapest official option.
| Car park | Per day | Getting to the terminal | Keys |
|---|---|---|---|
| Diamond Park & Ride | £4.12 | Bus, about 5 min | Left at reception |
| Purple Parking Park & Ride | £4.47 | Bus, about 4 min | Left at reception |
| Official Standard Parking | £7.90 | Walk, 3–5 min | You keep them |

Two habits lower the price further: book as soon as flights are fixed, and never turn up without a booking for anything longer than a few hours. Our Southend discount codes page shows the saving on every product.
Campervans and larger vehicles
Only Budget takes vehicles over 2.0 metres tall or 5.0 metres long. Standard, Superior and Premium stop at those limits.
That covers most campervans, motorhomes and high-top vans. Measure with any roof box or bike rack fitted. Diamond and Purple accept standard cars that fit a normal bay, without trailers and with fewer than eight seats, so they are no help for large vehicles. Motorcycles are welcome in the official car parks: book as usual and give the motorcycle's registration.
Paying, grace periods and overstays
Southend is a cashless airport, with a four-hour grace period either side of pre-booked times.
Every car park takes card or contactless only. Pre-booked stays have four hours' leeway at both ends. After that, the airport charges overstays at the 24-hour turn-up rate for the car park you are in. Vehicles must sit fully within a marked bay; the airport can move, clamp or charge cars that do not.
Getting to Southend Airport
London Southend Airport is on Eastwoodbury Crescent, Southend-on-Sea, SS2 6YF, on the edge of Rochford.
Most drivers come in on the A127 from the M25, then follow the airport signs through Rochford.
The airport's postcode, on Eastwoodbury Crescent. Diamond and Purple have their own.
Greater Anglia trains stop right beside the terminal.
From London and the M25, the A127 runs east to Southend; from Chelmsford, the A130 joins it. Follow the airport signs on the final approach and watch for the double red lines. For Diamond or Purple, use the postcode in your confirmation rather than the airport's.
Which car park for which trip
Match the car park to the trip, the vehicle and the walk you want.
| Your trip | Our suggestion | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Lowest price | Diamond Park & Ride | Cheapest we sell |
| Keep your keys, on a budget | Official Standard Parking | Cheapest official, short walk |
| Shortest walk for a trip | Official Premium Parking | Opposite the terminal, less than Superior |
| Campervan or tall van | Official Budget Parking | The only car park for large vehicles |
| Blue Badge holder | Official Superior Parking | Closest Blue Badge bays |
| Electric car, long drive home | Diamond with EV | Charged before you return |
Whichever you choose, pick for comfort first.
Security
The airport describes its car parks as secure, well lit and regularly patrolled. The off-airport sites describe fencing, CCTV and round-the-clock staff.
Well lit and patrolled, per the airport.
Plates logged in and out.
Keys held at reception; fenced sites.
Not stated by the airport; claimed for some off-airport sites by resellers.
We report each operator's claims as its own. Whichever car park you pick, keep bags and electronics out of sight or with you.
