What Official Standard Parking is
At a big London airport, the cheapest official car park usually comes with a bus ride. At Southend it comes with a short stroll. Standard parking, which the airport called Long Stay until its recent rename, is just round the corner from the terminal and is the lowest-priced car park the airport runs.
Standard is the airport's own budget car park. The airport puts it just round the corner from the terminal, a three to five minute walk to check-in. There is no shuttle to wait for, and you keep your keys.
Cameras read your plate at the entrance and exit, and every payment is by card or contactless, because Southend no longer takes cash anywhere in its car parks. The car must sit completely within a marked bay; the airport says vehicles left across bays may be moved, clamped or charged.
Standard takes vehicles up to 2.0 metres tall and 5.0 metres long. A camper, a long van or a car with a tall roof box has to go to Budget, the one Southend car park without those limits.
Where you'll park
London Southend Airport sits on the edge of Southend-on-Sea, beside Rochford, about 40 miles east of central London. Follow the airport signs, then the signs for Standard. Your booking may still say Long Stay.
From the A127, allow about 15 minutes through Rochford and Southend traffic outside the rush hour.

Long Stay by another name
London Southend Airport renamed its car parks: Long Stay is now Standard, Mid Stay is now Budget and Short Stay is now Superior. Premium kept its name. Older guides, sat-nav favourites and some booking sites still use the old names.
Slack for late flights
The airport allows a grace period of four hours either side of your pre-booked entry and exit times. A delayed flight home rarely needs any action. Go beyond that and the overstay is charged at the car park's 24-hour turn-up rate, so a delay of a day or more is worth amending before you land.
Turning up without a booking
Standard takes drivers without a booking, space permitting, at a flat daily turn-up rate. On a week away that adds up to several times the pre-booked price. The airport says pre-booking saves up to 60%, and our code applies 30% off the booked rate as well.
Standard or Budget
For an ordinary car, Standard is the better deal: a minute or two more on foot, for less money. Budget earns its place for larger vehicles and for anyone who wants the shorter walk.
