Which Stansted Airport Parking Option is Right for You?

Stansted’s official parking system is highly tiered, uniquely designed, and priced according to proximity to its single terminal building. Given the size of the airport, it is important to know the difference between a “Short Stay” walk and a “Long Stay” bus ride to ensure a smooth start to your holiday. Again remember, our Stansted Airport Parking Discount Code is applied to all car parks to provide you max savings. Here, we break down the official on-airport options and the highly competitive independent off-site providers so you can make an informed decision.

Stansted Official On-Airport Parking Options

The official car parks are operated by the airport and use Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) for easy barrier access.

Short Stay Car Park

This is Stansted’s premium self-park option. The Short Stay car park is divided into colour zones to make it easier to find your car on your return: Blue, Green, Orange, Red, and a new multi-storey car park located in the Green zone area.

Please note that walking times to the terminal depend heavily on the zone you choose. The Blue Zone is a 10–12 minute walk, the Green Zone is approximately 5–8 minutes, the Orange Zone is one of the closest options, and the Red Zone offers the fastest access with just a 1–4 minute walk to the check-in desks. You do not have to wait for a shuttle bus in any of these areas; you can lock your car and keep your own keys. Given its premium location, it has the highest official daily rate, so pre-booking is essential.

Mid Stay Parking

The Mid Stay car park is the much sought-after “sweet spot” of Stansted parking. It offers the perfect balance of terminal convenience and budget pricing. Located just a short distance from the terminal, it requires a quick, 5–7 minute free shuttle bus ride to reach the departure hall. These buses are highly reliable, running every 10 minutes, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Ideal for travellers heading off for a few days up to a week, with Park Mark awarded security and quick transfers, but without the Short Stay price tag.

Long Stay Parking

If you are going away for a typical 1–2 week summer holiday, the official Long Stay option is an excellent choice. It is located closer to the main airport entrance rather than the terminal itself, requiring a quick, 10-minute free shuttle bus ride to the terminal doors. As it is further out, it offers much better daily rates for longer trips. Like the Mid Stay facility, the buses run 24/7 and the compound is monitored by 24/7 CCTV, floodlighting, and regular security patrols.

JetParks

recommanded-by-bcp

JetParks is the official budget option and a great way to make your holiday spending money go further. JetParks is located on the outer perimeter of the airport and requires a slightly longer bus transfer, usually about 15 minutes depending on local traffic conditions. However, it offers excellent official daily rates for 1–2 week holidays. JetParks is the clear choice for the budget-conscious traveller who still wants official airport security, provided you do not mind a few extra minutes on a shuttle bus.

Official Meet & Greet

If you want the ultimate VIP experience, Stansted’s Official Meet and Greet service means you do not have to search for a parking space at all. Simply drive up to the dedicated Meet and Greet check-in area located just outside the terminal. On arrival, you hand your keys to a fully insured professional driver who will digitally inspect your vehicle and move it to a highly secure on-site compound. It is less than two minutes’ walking straight to the check-in hall. When you return, your car is brought back to the same reception area for a quick getaway, making it ideal for families or those with heavy luggage.

Park and Ride Car Parks – Off-Airport

If you are willing to go just beyond the airport perimeter, independent operators offer very cheap Park & Ride deals. At Britain Car Parks, we thoroughly vet these providers so you do not have to compromise on safety for a discount – an excellent level of security is guaranteed.

park and ride airport parking

SMG Park and Ride

SMG provides a highly secure park and ride compound a short distance from the terminal building. They are well regarded for their fast, reliable, and friendly shuttle service. You simply park your car in the supervised car park, board their dedicated minibus, and are dropped off directly at the terminal forecourt. It is a very efficient budget option, as their compound is surrounded by perimeter fencing and has 24-hour surveillance.

I Love Park and Ride

The operator “I Love” has very high ratings, friendly staff, and high security standards. They are known for their fast on-demand transfers with their Park and Ride service. This means you do not have to wait for a bus to fill up before you go to the airport; they leave when you are ready. This adds a personal touch to the budget parking experience.

Maple Parking Stansted

Maple Parking is a well-known name in the UK airport parking industry with years of operational experience. They provide a hassle-free ‘drop and go’ Park & Ride service at Stansted. You drive into their secure facility, unload your bags into their waiting shuttle, and their team parks your vehicle safely in their monitored compound as you head straight for the check-in desks.

APH Park and Ride STN

APH (Airport Parking & Hotels) brings decades of experience to Stansted. We highly recommend them for their Park Mark awarded compounds with heavy-duty security fencing, comprehensive floodlighting, and regular staff patrols. They always offer very competitive daily rates and award-winning customer service, so your trip starts with complete peace of mind.

Off-Airport Meet and Greet Car Parks

You do not have to pay the official airport premium to enjoy the luxury of valet service. These independent off-site operators provide terminal-side vehicle drop-offs for great value.

meet and greet airport parking

SMG Meet & Greet

SMG offers a no-hassle valet service for an easy arrival at the terminal. You go straight to the designated short stay at the airport and are met by an SMG driver in uniform. They take your keys and park your car securely in their off-site compound, allowing you to go straight to check-in with no need to carry your luggage on a bus.

I Love Meet and Greet

With decades of experience in the valet parking industry, “I Love Meet and Greet” receives top-tier customer feedback for their prompt forecourt vehicle collection. They monitor your return flight with live data, so your car is waiting for you soon after you clear baggage reclaim, making the drive home easy, no matter how delayed your flight is.

APH Meet & Greet STN

This is a luxury valet service from a trusted brand. APH Meet and Greet is perfect for families with young children or those with heavy, oversized luggage who want to avoid shuttle buses altogether. Hand over your keys at the terminal and let the experts handle the logistics so you can bypass security.

Dropping Off

Stansted Airport Drop-Off and Pick-Up (How to Pay And Fines)

Stansted Airport is notorious across the UK for its strict enforcement of traffic rules and high charges for drop-offs. This section contains the information you need to avoid large unexpected fines in the post when you get home.

The Express Drop-Off Zone

The Express Drop-Off area is just outside the terminal doors and is strictly for quick unloading. There is a required minimum drop-off fee. From the March 2026 tariff update, Stansted charges £10.00 for up to 15 minutes and £28.00 for up to 30 minutes. That makes it a very expensive kerbside option if you are not prepared to drop and go immediately.

Payments

This area uses a barrier-free ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) camera system. You pay at the barrier with a card or contactless payment. Cash is not accepted. Frequent flyers, local residents, or taxi drivers can also set up an AutoPay account online in advance so that funds are automatically deducted, avoiding any delay at the exit.

Rules & Fines (Important Information)

In this area, the airport has a significant police presence. In addition to the steep fees for exceeding your 15-minute limit, there is a £20 “reappearance fee” for dropping someone off, leaving, and then returning to the drop-off zone within 30 minutes. This is specifically intended to prevent drivers from circling the airport to avoid paying for parking.

Most importantly: Never stop on the approach roads or roundabouts. The roads approaching the terminal are red routes. Even a brief stop to drop off a passenger will result in an immediate £100 Penalty Charge Notice (PCN). This fine is often reduced to £60 if paid within 14 days, but it is strictly enforced by mobile CCTV vans patrolling the perimeter 24 hours a day.

Free Drop-Off Alternative

If you want to avoid the £10 charge entirely, Stansted offers an excellent alternative.
Travellers can drop off passengers free of charge for up to 1 hour in the Mid Stay Car Park.
This is the best way to drop off passengers without a fee and completely stress-free. Once you have dropped off your loved ones in the designated zone, they simply take the quick, free shuttle directly to the terminal building. It adds about 10 minutes to the journey but saves the full drop-off charge.

Pickup

Do not stop in the Express Drop-Off zone to pick people up. It is only for dropping off passengers, and you will be penalised for waiting. For arriving flights, we recommend waiting in the Short Stay car park. You can park, check the flight status on your phone, and meet your passengers safely in the arrivals hall without the anxiety of a ticking 15-minute clock.

Parking charges (Short Stay Orange, Green & Blue)

Duration Price
Up to 30 minutes £13.00
Up to 1 hour £21.00
Up to 2 hours £25.00
Up to 4 hours £38.00
Up to 24 hours £62.00

Park And Stay

Stansted Airport Hotel & Parking

Getting up early to catch a Ryanair or easyJet flight and negotiating the M11 in the dark is hardly the perfect start to a holiday. With a Stay, Park & Fly package, you can arrive the night before, enjoy a good meal, have a full night’s sleep, and wake up just minutes from the check-in desks.

Radisson Blu & Hampton by Hilton Connected Hotels

If you want maximum convenience, both the Radisson Blu and the Hampton by Hilton are directly connected to the terminal by a covered walkway. Wake up, enjoy a premium buffet breakfast, and walk to airport security in less than five minutes. The Radisson Blu is especially famous for the dramatic Angels’ Wine Tower in the lobby and the excellent Collage restaurant. When you book a parking package with these premium hotels, your car will usually be kept in a secure, official car park during your trip.

Hotels Nearby (Premier Inn & Holiday Inn Express)

If you are looking for budget-friendly family options, the Premier Inn and Holiday Inn Express are ideal. Located just a short shuttle ride from the terminal, they offer great value, comfortable family rooms, and breakfast included. It is much cheaper to leave your car parked at these hotels (or their associated secure compounds) than at the terminal-connected hotels.

Stansted Travelodge Airport

Another good budget option is the Travelodge, which is very close to the terminal. It offers the reliable, no-frills comfort the brand is known for, along with heavily discounted parking packages – perfect for those who only need a clean bed before an early morning 6:00 a.m. departure.

Directions

How to reach London Stansted Airport

Stansted Airport is situated in Essex, approximately 40 miles north-east of Central London, and is very well connected to major regional road and rail networks.

direction to airport

Getting there by car

The airport is easily reached via the M11 motorway. If you are coming from London and the South, exit at Junction 8a. If you are approaching from Cambridge and the North, exit at Junction 8. Simply follow the prominent signs for Stansted Airport. Sat-nav users should use the main terminal postcode CM24 1RW.

Crucial Navigation Tip

If you have booked off-site parking through an independent provider, you must carefully navigate to the provider's specific compound address provided in your Britain Car Parks confirmation email, not the main airport terminal. If you go to the terminal first, you will have to navigate the one-way system in the airport, wasting time and possibly incurring an accidental Express Drop-Off charge.

By Train & Coach

If you are travelling without a car, the Stansted Express offers a direct rail link from London Liverpool Street, with trains running frequently and the journey taking just 47 minutes. Alternatively, National Express coaches run 24/7 from London Victoria and Stratford directly to the airport’s dedicated lower-level bus station.

At The Airport

Terminal Facilities at Stansted Airport

Developing complete topical authority means knowing exactly what to expect once you leave your car. Stansted has a unique design. Its striking Norman Foster architecture and iconic floating roof make it stand out.

Terminal Guide

Unlike Heathrow or Gatwick, Stansted is a large, single-terminal airport. Check-in, security, and arrivals are all located in the main building. After clearing security, passengers are directed to a satellite gate system. Some gates are accessible by a fast underground transit train (the Track Transit System), while others are reached via a dedicated pedestrian walkway. Check the departure boards regularly for your gate number and allow plenty of time to walk to your satellite building.

Check-In & Airport Security

The check-in hall is spacious and open. Stansted is a major airport for budget airlines such as Ryanair and easyJet, so most of the hall features automated bag drops for these carriers. You will scan your own boarding pass, tag your luggage, and place it on the belt. Then proceed to the central security search area. Queues can still be substantial during the summer peak, although this area has been recently modernised to speed up the process. It is strongly recommended to purchase a Fast Track security pass to avoid the queues.

Accessible & Disabled Parking

Stansted Airport is committed to providing a seamless experience for passengers with reduced mobility. The Short, Mid, and Long Stay car parks have dedicated Blue Badge bays, located as close as possible to bus stops or pedestrian exits. Blue Badge holders receive a discount when using the Express Drop-Off zone. You must pay the normal charge at the barrier and then apply online for a refund or discount with evidence of your Blue Badge and travel documents.

Parking for Motorcycles

Motorcycle parking at Stansted is not free, but the airport caters well to motorcyclists. Pre-booking your space in advance is essential, with a 50% discount for motorcyclists. Discounted parking is only available in the Short Stay Orange car park and the Long Stay Zone Q car park. You can safely leave your bike in these purpose-built areas. This removes the hassle of searching for a secure parking area for your motorcycle before flying.

Shopping & Food

Once through security, you pass through a large World Duty-Free, where cosmetics, spirits, and luxury goods are heavily discounted. The departure lounge offers premium brands alongside high street staples such as Pret A Manger and Starbucks for a quick coffee. For a more substantial pre-flight meal, The Windmill (the airport’s extremely popular Wetherspoons) serves great value pub classics and offers an excellent view of the airfield.

Lounges at the Airport

If you need some peace and quiet, the Escape Lounge is a good place to retreat from the busy main departure hall. When you book entry, you receive a quiet space, complimentary hot and cold buffet food, unlimited premium beverages, and dedicated high-speed Wi-Fi. It is the perfect upgrade for anyone who wants to start their holiday in comfort.
