Official Short Stay 1 and 2 explained
Newcastle has one terminal, and its two short stay car parks sit right in front of it. Short Stay 1 is the nearer, immediately outside the entrance. Short Stay 2 is a few minutes further and costs less over a week. Neither has a height limit, so they also suit the vans and roof boxes other car parks turn away.
Short Stay 1 is the car park immediately outside the terminal entrance. You drive in, park in any free bay and walk straight into departures. It is the closest spot you can park in yourself at Newcastle; only the Premium car parks the airport runs as separate products sit nearer.
Short Stay 2 is next along. Resellers put the walk at three to five minutes, and some describe a short bus hop as well. It is cheaper than Short Stay 1 for the same eight days on our sample dates, which makes it the better value of the two for most trips.
Both work in the same way. A camera reads your number plate as you arrive, you keep your keys, and the barrier lifts as you leave. Neither has a height restriction, per the airport's help pages, and neither has a limit on the number of seats.
Getting there
Newcastle International Airport is at Woolsington, north-west of the city, off the A696. Follow the signs for the terminal and then for Short Stay 1 or Short Stay 2, as your confirmation says.
From the A1, the last few miles take around ten minutes outside the rush hour.

Safety and security
Newcastle Airport says its car parks hold Park Mark accreditation, and lists CCTV, fencing, security patrols and number plate recognition on the way in and out. That is the airport's own statement, taken from its help pages on 25 September 2026. Leave nothing of value on show, as you would anywhere.

Short Stay 1 or Short Stay 2
For most people flying for a week, Short Stay 2 is the sensible pick. Short Stay 1 earns its place with a baby, a wheelchair user in the party or a very early flight in the rain.

The free 15 minutes has gone
Until January 2026, drivers could stop in Short Stay 2 free for 15 minutes to drop someone off. That ended when the airport opened its free Airport Waiting Zone at Callerton Parkway, with a shuttle to the terminal. Older guides still mention the free quarter hour.

Vans, roof boxes and big cars
Newcastle is unusually generous to large vehicles. Short Stay 1, Short Stay 2 and Long Stay have no height limit. The Express drop-off car park stops at 2.0 metres, the Minibus and Van car park at 2.9 metres, and Premium Meet & Greet at 2.7 metres with no cars of eight seats or more. For a campervan or a high-top van on holiday, Short Stay is the closest place you can leave it.
Paying at the barrier
Pre-booked stays open the barrier from your number plate, so there is nothing to pay on the way out. For turn-up stays, card is the way to pay: cash stopped being accepted at the exits in March 2026, per the airport, though some payment machines inside still take it.
The night before
Short Stay is simple, and a minute with your booking keeps it that way.

Cameras read number plates at Newcastle's barriers, so the registration on your Short Stay booking must be the car you drive. Bookings made with us can be cancelled until 72 hours before arrival.
