Official Mid Stay: the basics
Mid Stay is the cheapest car park London Luton runs on our sample dates, and the only official one where you can walk in with a tall vehicle. The terminal is about ten minutes away on foot. One thing has changed: the free 15 minutes that many guides still mention has gone.
Mid Stay sits within walking distance of the terminal, around ten minutes according to the airport. There is no bus to wait for, and you keep your keys.
The airport says there are no height restrictions, so it suits vans, roof boxes and tall 4x4s that would not clear the 2.1m barriers at the terminal car parks. Blue Badge bays are in zone A, on the left as you enter.
Motorcycles park free in designated bays for up to 14 days, with charges after that. The site is patrolled around the clock by the car park management, airport security and the police, per the airport.
Where it is and how to get in
London Luton Airport sits on the south-east edge of Luton, about two miles from Junction 10 of the M1. Enter LU2 9QT, then ignore the sat-nav near the airport and follow the Mid Stay signs.
Allow ten minutes for the walk after parking.

Keeping your car safe
London Luton Airport says its car parks are Park Mark certified, as assessed by the police, and patrolled 24 hours a day. Number plate recognition runs the barriers. Take valuables with you all the same.

The free drop-off that no longer exists
Plenty of guides still say Mid Stay gives 15 minutes free. It does not. The airport's gate price starts at £15 for up to an hour, then £40 for each day or part day.
For a free drop-off or pick-up, the airport's Long Stay car park allows up to two hours free, with a bus to the terminal. Our Luton drop-off and pick-up guide has the details.
Tall vehicles
With no height restriction, Mid Stay is the walk-in answer for a van or a car with a roof box. Long Stay has no limit either, but adds a bus ride.
The night before
Mid Stay is simple; plan for the walk.

Note it when you park.
The barrier reads your plate, but keep it handy.
The barriers at Luton read number plates, so the registration on your Mid Stay booking has to match the car you arrive in. Bookings made with us can be cancelled until 72 hours before arrival.
Dropping the car off
Departure day at Official Mid Stay runs like this.

- Drive up to the barrier; it reads your number plate.
- Park and keep your keys.
- Walk to the terminal, about ten minutes.
Picking the car up
When you land, the return is quick.
- Walk back from Arrivals.
- Find your zone and bay.
- Drive out through the barrier.
