We include the official Long Stay here because it works the same way: park, then ride a bus to the terminal. The others are run by off-airport operators on their own sites.
How park and ride works at Gatwick
You drive to a car park a few miles from the airport, check in and ride a shuttle to your terminal. On return, you catch the shuttle back from a stop outside the terminal.
- Drive to the car park. Use the address in your confirmation. Each site has its own entrance.
- Check in. At a key-drop site, hand your keys to reception. At Long Stay or APH Self Park, keep them.
- Ride to the terminal. Shuttles serve both North and South.
- Come home the same way. Catch the shuttle from the stop in your confirmation and collect your car.
The saving comes from the land. Sites a few miles out cost less to run than car parks beside the terminal, and staff can pack cars in tightly when they hold the keys. You trade a short ride for a lower price, and for a week or more away that trade usually pays. Pre-book with us and the saving grows further. AVPS sits near Lingfield, Cophall in Copthorne, and APH and Airparks share a site on Copthorne Road off M23 Junction 10.

We have not timed the shuttles ourselves, so these are the operators' figures. Cophall's timing covers the whole process from check-in, which is why it looks longer.
APH's three options on one site
APH sells standard park and ride, park and ride with EV charging, and Self Park, all from its Copthorne Road site. The shuttle is the same for all three.
Leave your keys with staff. The cheapest of the three.
Staff charge your car to full. Bring your own cable and arrive with at least 5% battery.
Park your own car and keep your keys.
Cars with a ghost immobiliser need Self Park, which APH otherwise sells as a £20 upgrade on arrival. The APH Gatwick Parking page sets out the three prices side by side.
The official Long Stay as park and ride
Gatwick's own Long Stay runs a free bus every 10 to 12 minutes, 24 hours a day, and you keep your keys.
It costs a little more than AVPS or Cophall over eight days on our sample dates. For that you get the airport's own car park, Park Mark approval stated by Gatwick and no key drop. Long Stay also has no height limit, which suits vans and roof boxes. See the Official Long Stay page.
Luggage, bikes and sports kit
APH and Airparks shuttles do not carry bikes, surfboards or windsurf boards. Skis and snowboards are fine. Cophall says its drivers help with cases and skis.
With bulky kit, drop it at the terminal with a passenger first, then drive back to park. With no second person, meet and greet avoids the problem, because a driver takes your car at the terminal.
Electric cars at park and ride
APH Park & Ride with EV Charging charges your car to full while you are away. AVPS also says it offers charging. The official Long Stay has no chargers.

Early flights and late returns
The official Long Stay bus runs through the night, and APH, Airparks and Cophall all describe 24-hour shuttles. Each works for a dawn departure or a midnight landing.
For a very early flight, allow extra time at a key-drop reception, which can be busy when several flights leave in the same hour. At the official Long Stay there is no reception, so you park and walk straight to the stop.
On a late return, head for the stop named in your confirmation. At Cophall, call the freephone number on your key receipt card and the operator says it will send a shuttle. Keep your phone charged for the trip home.
Security at the park and ride sites
APH describes over 120 CCTV camera points, barriers, floodlighting and 24-hour staff at Copthorne Road. Cophall says it holds Park Mark approval, and AVPS describes CCTV and gated access.
Gatwick states that its official car parks hold Park Mark Safer Parking approval, the police-backed award for car parks with proper lighting, surveillance and management.
