Car Park 2 is where most holidaymakers at Cardiff should start. It is run by the airport, it is the cheapest product we sell here, and the terminal is still only a short walk away, with a shuttle for anyone who would rather ride. You keep your keys, and the same car park doubles as the airport's free short-stop area for pick-ups.
Car Park 2 is one of three official car parks at Cardiff Airport and the lowest-priced of the four products we sell here. It sits a little further from the terminal than Car Park 1: the walk takes five to seven minutes, and an optional shuttle runs for those who want it.
You park yourself and keep your keys. Entry and exit are by barrier, and resellers describe CCTV and regular staff patrols across the site.
Car Park 2 also has a second job. The airport lets drivers use it free for up to 20 minutes when dropping off or collecting passengers, which makes it the cheapest way to meet a flight. The airport says dedicated parking and assistance are available in Car Parks 1 and 2, with ramp access to the terminal.
Where it is
Cardiff Airport sits at Rhoose in the Vale of Glamorgan, about 12 miles south-west of the city centre. From the M4, leave at junction 33 and follow the A4232 and the A4050 past Culverhouse Cross. At the airport, follow the signs for Car Park 2.
Allow around a quarter of an hour from the barrier to check-in.

The free pick-up area
For pick-ups and drop-offs, the airport lets you stay in Car Park 2 without charge for the first 20 minutes. After that, the airport's tariff is £6 up to 40 minutes, £8 up to an hour and £10 for up to two hours. Car Park 2 or Car Park 1
Car Park 1 is a couple of minutes closer and costs a little more. Over a fortnight the saving in Car Park 2 adds up; for a weekend it is small, and the shorter walk may win.
The walk and the shuttle
The walk is on the airport site, on marked footpaths, and takes most people a few minutes with a case. The optional shuttle helps with heavy luggage or children, and on a wet evening. Keep the booking confirmation to hand in case the driver asks for it.
Coming back late
Booking terms reported by resellers give a discretionary grace period of three hours on return, after which extra days are charged at £25 a day. Amend the booking before you fly when your return date moves.
